That could be finding suppliers for your business to improve your bottom line, and certainly providing support in finding clients is a big priority, but it's also about getting to know people who you can call on for a bit of free advice and help - the sort that's invaluable and impossible to put a price on!

Rabbit Design are a well established graphic design company who relocated in Wyre in 2008, with a strong and wide client base in South Yorkshire - but not a scrap of knowledge in Lancashire!
The Economic Development section at Wyre Borough Council provided invaluable help in setting the business off on the right track to making new contacts.
Through Wyred Up, Rabbit have made all kinds of sales and purchases, including:
- Producing the new Beneast Training website
- Buying stationery from BWS Office Supplies
- Buying printing from Hesketh Press
- Moving their Accountancy requirements to Jones Harris at Fleetwood
- Recommending Twelve Restaurant for catering for a clients monthly meetings
And on a slightly more personal level:
- Found a fantastic builder in Loftech
- Saved over £250 on a new garden fence from Fylde Fencing

This corresondence was recieved following the Wyred Up Event on 8th June 2011
at the North Euston Hotel
Just a quick email to say how useful I found the Wyred Up event on Wednesday. I have already completed my feedback form where I detailed the fact that I actually took an order during the event, but
I neglected to mention that it was Simmons Construction that I did business with. Tony and Neil from Simmons felt that you may want to be aware of what occurred as a “Good News” story to illustrate how effective these events can be.
I was approached by Neil Saxon from Simmons Construction after my 60 Second Business Pitch. After a discussion about Fire Safety Requirements in general, Neil mentioned that he needed some Fire Safety Signage for a property his company was renovating. I actually had the signs Neil needed in stock on my vehicle, so the deal was done in the car park of The North Euston! I arrived hoping to make some business contacts, and left the event having fulfilled an order for a valued new customer.
Neil also mentioned a need for a Fire Extinguisher at another property they were working on, which I was happy to install for him this morning. The man Neil sent to meet me was called Tom; my name is Jerry. The comic irony of Tom & Jerry meeting to do business has not gone unnoticed by either of our companies! Expect more cartoon scenarios to follow.
As a fledgling business it is often hard for us to attract clients of the calibre of Simmons Construction without spending thousands on advertising; the Wyred Up event provided the forum for what I hope will be a mutually beneficial business relationship between two local companies.
Best regards,
Jerry Thorley

In fact one of them is so impressed with the Poulton-le-Fylde based business that it is top of her list of “must-do” visits when she comes home ... from South Africa!
Julie, 38, who set up The Nail Lounge three years ago, said: “I have people who come here regularly from Manchester, Preston and Over Wyre – but there are a handful who live abroad for part or most of the year and I know that making an appointment here is the first thing they do when they are back in England.”
It speaks volumes for Julie’s commitment to the business, which is based in the town’s Teanlowe Centre and now employs five people.
The mum-of-three has always followed her heart when it comes to forging ahead with her business plans and has let nothing stand in the way of her dream of being her own boss.
So when her market research was screaming at her that she didn’t have a client base for her new business, she ignored it and went ahead anyway.
And when the decision came about where to advertise, she decided she would rather not and instead took the brave step of offering a free service for her first two weeks of trading. “People were queuing at the door,” she said.
She did, however, listen long and hard to one expert about the ins and outs of setting up in business and even after she had been trading for almost three years rang him for advice.
That expert, a business advisor with the Get Started Programme was there at the start when Julie, now 38, was struggling to get her head around financial forecasts and the legalities of employing staff and running her own premises.
The mum-of-three said: “My adviser was brilliant in that he seemed to have an answer to every question I asked. He also suggested that I employ an accountant rather than try to manage that side of things myself, because it’s clearly not for me. That turned out to be great advice.”
Get Started offers new and young businesses free advice and mentoring from one of its team of experts. They manage the Intensive Start-up (ISUS) programme in Blackpool. The Northwest ISUS programme is jointly funded by the Northwest Regional Development Agency, the European Regional Development Fund and Lancashire County Council and is part of the governments Solutions for Business programme.
Julie and her team, who always aim to be at the cutting edge of their profession, have won a clutch of awards including the title of number one manicurist in the North of England and, for one of her staff, novice nail technician.
She has now added training to her the range of service she offers, providing recognised qualifications for aspiring nail technicians.
