Cllr Barry Birch, Economy Port Folio holder, chaired the meeting and introduced Wyred Up to the huge business audience who had come along to hear about The new Wyre Power powerstation and learn more about the road works in the area caused by the cable laying through Thornton into Hillhouse Business Park.
Karen Roberts of Thornton Little Theatre and the Paul Nicholas School of Acting and Performing Arts welcomed everyone to the Theare and gave an overview of what Thornton Little Theatre offers.
Alex Lambie (Chief Executive Officer) from Wyre Power provided an update on the progress of the Wyre Power Station at Hillhouse Business Park.
Jane Littlewood from Rabbit Design for Walney Offshore Windfarm spoke about what is happening in the local area, you will all have noticed all the road works whilst the new electricity cable is being laid. Jane also informed the audience of future things to look out for one of which was a barge that will be on Thornton beach when the cable comes to on to the land from the sea.
Sally Taylor who is the Census Area manager for Blackpool and Wyre talked about next years census and the implications for businesses
And finally, the innovation. Jane Schofield from Opera Events introduced Charlotte Kinder who gave us a real treat by singing 2 opera arias. This showcased both Opera Events, a company that is based here in Wyre, and the Thornton Little Theatre
The l speakers were intersperced with members of the audience - businesses who had volunteered to make a one minute business pitch to introduce themselves and their services to the assembled audience of well over 100 captive business people! One minute is actually a long time to fill and many of them didn't manage to use all their time,
Wyred Up quarterly network meetings are attended by people from businesses all over the Borough and from all kinds of different backgrounds. Well over 100 businesses can be found at each event, and it's not the same faces each time, with a majority of new attendees coming to each event.
