Wyred Up 'Goes Back to School!'

Rossall School, 4 March 2010

 

The 6th Wyred Up Event (and first for 2010) was held on March 4 at Rossall School. The School generously granted use of the 'Big School Hall', which is the theatre and assembly hall section, the ancient room was provided grand backdrop for the event.

 

 

The hall was packed with the 110 businesses who attended! Cllr Barry Birch (Highcross Ward Poulton) opened the event with encouraging words about the success of the Wyred Up events and welcomed the speakers.

 

Dr Stephen Winkley (Headmaster) at Rossall School outlined the history of the School and urged Business to look around the premises. Mike Phealan (Director and Business and Skills) from Blackpool and the Fylde College provided an overview of the training offered by the college.

 

Mike urged businesses to 'keep investing the skills of the workforce to;

 

Maintain staff loyalty
Increase morale

Be ready for the upturn
Develop a competitive edge

Increase profitability

 

Amanda Bate (Health Improvement Specialist) from NHS North Lancashire outlined how the North Lancs NHS is helping to improve health in the workplace and offered advice on how to build up a resilient workforce.

 

Martin Furne (Redundancy Co-ordinator) from Jobcentre Plus raised awareness of the free support available to businesses, and how Jobcentre Plus can meet recruitment needs.

 

And finally Simon Towers from NPL Estates provided a fascinating overview of the development planned at Hillhouse International Business Park in Thornton.
