The Wyred Up quarterly networking event on 8th June.
Held at The North Euston Hotel Fleetwood, it was another well attended event – with attendees reaching well in excess of 150 companies.
‘It has been yet another brilliant event with plenty of business opportunity’ said Jane Littlewood, Chair of the group. ‘Speakers included Mark Makin from ACAS who spoke about all that ACAS has to offer businesses, they are not just there for arbitration, Chris Dixon the business reporter from Blackpool Gazette spoke about the business pages in the paper and how easy it is for businesses to contribute as it is their page to promote business in the Fylde. Peter Neill a Director from Jones Harris Chartered Accountants explained how they had become a paperLESS office and how it could benefit businesses. Fiona Spearman the owner of The North Euston Hotel welcomed everyone to the event and invited people to have a guided tour of the improvements they had made to the hotel in the 18 months since they had been there.
There were one minute business pitches too.
One local business after giving his business pitch took an order on the day and has had a follow up order since the event. This is what Jerry Thorley from Lancashire Fire Protection said.
"Just a quick email to say how useful I found the Wyred Up event on Wednesday. I have already completed my feedback form where I detailed the fact that I actually took an order during the event, but
I neglected to mention that it was Simmons Construction that I did business with. Tony and Neil from Simmons felt that you may want to be aware of what occurred as a “Good News” story to illustrate how effective these events can be.
"I was approached by Neil Saxon from Simmons Construction after my 60 Second Business Pitch. After a discussion about Fire Safety Requirements in general, Neil mentioned that he needed some Fire Safety Signage for a property his company was renovating. I actually had the signs Neil needed in stock on my vehicle, so the deal was done in the car park of The North Euston! I arrived hoping to make some business contacts, and left the event having fulfilled an order for a valued new customer.
"Neil also mentioned a need for a Fire Extinguisher at another property they were working on, which I was happy to install for him this morning. The man Neil sent to meet me was called Tom; my name is Jerry. The comic irony of Tom & Jerry meeting to do business has not gone unnoticed by either of our companies! Expect more cartoon scenarios to follow.
"As a fledgling business it is often hard for us to attract clients of the calibre of Simmons Construction without spending thousands on advertising; the Wyred Up event provided the forum for what I hope will be a mutually beneficial business relationship between two local companies.“
Jane added “ This is fantastic news” ‘Wyred Up is free to everyone – members of the public or business – and in challenging times it’s another weapon in the arsenal of business survival and everyone is encouraged to get as much out of it as they can. We are also looking for enthusiastic business representatives to get involved locally with the economic agenda, and at the next meeting will be providing more details.’
