Discussions with a number of potential investors are continuing, but are extremely positive and unlikely to be delayed by current economic issues.
This development costing around £20 million is planned for the Copse Road area. The proposals follow extensive consultation withthe processing and catching sectors, which combined, are valued at £130 million per year.
The development will allow the industry to grow and secure options for the future, maintaining 600 jobs, withthe potential for an increase in job opportunities over the next five years of 25%.
Funding from this national grant scheme has been secured by Wyre Borough Council against competition from many other seaside towns all over the UK.
Thanks to the generosity of the Lofthouse family, makers of the famous 'Fisherman's Friends' a total investment of £1.67 million is available to be spent on the following schemes:
- Mythic Coastline (12% of total budget)
The creation of a Mythic Trail along the coastline from Cleveleys, including an annual festival and innovative public artwork. The trail will be expressed as a book and kept as a community owned project.
- Fleetwood's Marine Hall (55% of total budget)
Improvements to include a new entrance, glazing of exterior colonnades to create 2,700 sq ft of space for cultural activities and an outdoor 60,000 sq ft landscaped arena in the Hall's gardens.
- Public Art Programme (8% of total budget)
An open design competition selecting artists to design and manufacture artwork for 3 locations along the coast.
- The Wyre Wing (25% of total budget)
Creation of an observation centre for local wildlife and birdlife.
