WHAT IS NISP?
The National Industrial Symbiosis Programme (NISP) is funded by the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) to encourage and promote industrial symbiosis in England.
NISP is a FREE business opportunity programme that uses the industrial symbiosis approach to bring together companies from every industry sector with the aim of improving cross industry resource productivity and ultimately the commercial performance of the businesses involved. NISP is the first industrial symbiosis initiative in the world to be launched on a national scale.
What makes NISP different is that it deals with ALL TYPES OF RESOURCES – materials, energy, water, AND supports the sharing of assets, logistics and expertise.
Through NISP, companies can achieve substantial cost savings, generate sales from new markets and contribute towards creating a low carbon, sustainable economy.
NISP Achievements
Between April 2005 and March 2010 NISP in the UK has generated over £176 million in new sales for its members and collectively helped them to save over £156 million. In addition, the programme has diverted more than 7 million tonnes of business waste from landfill and reduced CO2 emissions by 6 million tonnes.
